Lore & Background
Miles Morales was bitten by a genetically enhanced spider a year before the events of *Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales*, gaining powers like Peter Parker's. He trained under Peter for over a year, mastering his abilities but still doubting whether he can live up to Peter's legacy. At the start of the game, Peter leaves for Symkaria to assist Mary Jane Watson, trusting Miles to protect New York alone. Miles moves from Brooklyn to Harlem and must defend his new home from a war between the corrupt Roxxon Energy Corporation and a high-tech criminal army called the Underground, led by the mysterious Tinkerer—revealed to be his childhood best friend Phin Mason. His uncle Aaron Davis, who leads a double life as the armored mercenary Prowler, knows Miles' secret identity and helps him infiltrate Roxxon. Miles' bio-electric Venom Blast, which he first uses to defeat Rhino, is a key power, along with Camouflage for temporary invisibility. The game is set during Christmas, with Manhattan covered in snow.
In Their Own Story
After more than a year of training under Peter Parker, Miles Morales has mastered his superpowers and established himself as Spider-Man's crime-fighting partner, though he still struggles to adapt. While escorting prisoners to the Raft, Miles accidentally releases Rhino, who rampages through the city. Peter is knocked unconscious, but Miles intervenes and defeats Rhino with his new Venom Blast ability. Peter then leaves for Symkaria, entrusting New York to Miles. Miles investigates a break-in at Roxxon Plaza and stops the Underground from stealing Roxxon's experimental power source, Nuform. He later discovers that Phin Mason, his childhood best friend, is the Tinkerer leading the Underground. Phin seeks revenge on Roxxon's Simon Krieger, who killed her brother Rick after Rick tried to expose Nuform's dangers. With help from his uncle Aaron as the Prowler, Miles infiltrates a Roxxon lab to retrieve evidence of Krieger's crimes, but the phone containing it is destroyed. Miles reveals his identity to Phin to save his life, souring their friendship. The two are later captured by Roxxon.
Reader's Guide
In *Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales*, players control Miles in a third-person open world set in a fictionalized modern-day Manhattan covered in snow during Christmas. Gameplay focuses on traversal and combat, with Miles' unique abilities—Venom Blast (incapacitates enemies with bio-electricity and charges electronics), Camouflage (temporary invisibility), and Mega Venom Blast (massive explosion damaging all nearby enemies). New gadgets include Remote Mines, holographic fighters, and Gravity Wells. Miles can upgrade abilities and gadgets via a skill tree system. An in-game mobile app provides feedback on ongoing crimes and access to side missions. Unlockable suits, some based on existing versions of the character, enhance abilities like taking more damage or regenerating Venom Power faster. During certain sections, players control Miles in his civilian persona without powers. The game launched in November 2020 for PlayStation 4 and as a launch title for PlayStation 5, with a Windows version in November 2022. A sequel, *Marvel's Spider-Man 2*, was released in October 2023.
