The rain hammered the fire escape of the apartment building on 42nd Street, and Peter's left wrist was dead. The cartridge had shattered three minutes ago when the carapace-creature's blade caught the dispenser at an ugly angle. He could feel the empty housing, slick and useless, strapped to his forearm. Below, the creature was tearing the lobby apart, and the civilians were pressing against the glass of the ground-floor windows, their mouths open in silent screams.

He swung to the rooftop, boots scraping wet gravel, and pressed his right thumb against the secondary trigger. A single, thick thread lashed out and wrapped around a steel antenna. He pulled. The building groaned. He fired again—two, three threads—anchoring himself to the gargoyle, the water tower, the edge of the adjacent tower. A crude web-net, laced and layered, dropping over the creature's shoulders like a net over a fish. It thrashed. The threads held. Barely.

Peter dropped from the web, landing on the creature's back, and for a long, rain-soaked moment, it was just a boy and a monster and the creak of stretching silk. Then the threads snapped, one by one, and he was falling, and he had to swing again, and the night was not over.

In the classic Peter Parker canon (comics, 2002 film, MCU), web-shooters are entirely manufactured technology. Peter synthesizes a viscous adhesive compound—web-fluid—and designs compact wrist-mounted dispensers that spray it in controlled threads.
